How long do the Mums stay at Firstfruits?

There is no maximum or minimum stay at Firstfruits, though we expect the Mum-to-be to move in while she is still pregnant and then be ready to move on when the baby is between 6 to 12 months old.

 

What happens to the Mums after Firstfruits?

When the Mums and babies are ready to move on, Firstfruits will help them find accommodation.  Mums are welcome to visit the house and continue to receive help and support whenever they need it.

 

Is there an age limit for the Mums?

Unfortunately, for insurance reasons, we are currently unable to accept Mums below the age of 16.  The project is aimed at young people, but if you think we can help you, please contact us!

 

What kind of help and support is offered to the Mums?

Each Mum is different, of course, but we can help with most things!  The Mums have the opportunity to learn life skills such as running a household, cooking, cleaning, budgeting and how to look after a baby.  Firstfruits are partnered with an organisation that can offer debt and social welfare advice (see Related Links).  Most of all, by gathering together Mums in similar situations, Firstfruits seeks to offer the Mums a safe and secure place to call home and to become part of a community that cares for and supports itself.

 

How much does it cost?

As part of the induction, each Mum will go through a budgeting process to see what they can afford.  Typically, the Mum will be eligible for housing benefit, which will be used to pay rent.  Other costs are met by charitable donations.

 

I want to help out, can I volunteer?

Of course, we are always on the look out for extra volunteers!  All skills are welcome from helping support the Mums and babies and teach life skills, to everyday household repairs, maintenance and gardening!  Please contact us if you’d like more information.
